Biography
Maxon Higbee was born in Paradise California, a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range that was left over by the miners during the California gold rush. The world’s largest gold nugget, “The Dogtown Nugget”, was found a mere mile away from Maxon’s house. I think that this direct proximity to the unattainable treasures of the past has instilled a romantic sense of “searching and discovering” in Maxon. Maxon received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a BFA in Painting and Drawing, at California State University Chico in 2007. In 2008 he was offered a full-time merit fellowship in the Painting and Drawing program at the Art Institute of Chicago, one the most prestigious art programs in the United States. Upon completing his Masters of Fine Arts degree he received a John Quincy Adams Grant for artistic merit. Recently Maxon was featured New American Paintings issue 101. In 2010 Maxon was awarded a World Less Traveled Grant for a proposed project in Madrid, where he continues to live and work. In 2013 he was a selected artist in issue #101 of New American Paintings. Currently Maxon is the visting artist in the Estudio Joven program at The Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, in Madrid. Maxon has shown work in many galleries and institutions in California, Chicago, and Madrid.
